FORT LAURDERDALE AND MIAMI FLORIDA

Our visit to the  Fort Lauderdale/Miami area was a very busy one with a bus tour and a dinner cruise on the Jungle Queen. The bus trip took us to Miami Beach for a narrated tour of the area's architecture from the old art deco buildings as well as the modern high rises.  We stopped for a walk on the beach and toured the areas of Coconut Grove, Little Havana and South Beach.  After lunch the group did a walking tour of the Vizcaya mansion and gardens.  The Vizcaya was built as a private residence by James Deering in the early 1900's.  He made his milllions by starting International Harvester.The property has been turned over to the city and is now a museum.  

Our boat ride on the Jungle Queen took us through the waterways of Fort Lauderdale for a view of the homes of the rich and famous like the owners of Kohl's and Waste Management to name two of many.  We then stopped on an island for dinner and entertainment before heading back to port.  If you didn't notice, the cruise was on St. Patrick's day so we all had to wear green including hair and mustaches.  Our group doesn't like to have too much fun!!!!  It was also Dick and Brenda's wedding anniversary so we had a cake to celebrate.

Our next stop and one of the highlights of the trip was our stay in Key West.  For many of our guests it was the first time to the area.  Hopefully, they enjoyed it as much as we did.  We have been there at least 6 times and never tire of the place.  

One of the "required" stops is at the Southern most point in the U.S. and quite a few of us waited in line to have their picture taken at the spot.  This was a stop on the trolley tour we did of Key West.

The next evening's planned event was a Sunset dinner cruise with entertainment.  The food was good but the highlight was the singer. He had us all up dancing and doing Conga lines around the boat. Of course, it took the Adventure Caravaners to get the party started.

There was a free day so that everyone had the chance to explore Key West and the we ended our time there with a Social and Key Lime pie.
