JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING

Our next stop was in Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole.  This was the first time we had been there  and the views of the mountains with the fall foliage were spectacular. We  were also treated to the sight of a double rainbow on our first evening at the campground.
The Grand Tetons are a small but very high mountain range  between Wyoming and Idaho.  The tallest mountain (Grand Teton),  is 13,770 feet high.  The valley is called Jackson Hole and the largest town is named Jackson. Just outside of Jackson is the National Elk Refuge which is the winter home for thousands of elk.   The town square is bordered by four arches made of elk antlers.  Elk shed their antlers every spring and the local Boy Scout troops sell the antlers with the money going to buy supplemental winter food for the elk at the refuge.
During our stay, our group took a late afternoon float  trip down the Snake river and had a Covered Wagon Dinner and western entertainment including an "Indian raid".  Both events were enjoyed by all, especially Wally who was called on to help sing "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain".
Several couples also rode the tram in Teton Village to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain. At 10,450', it isn't as high as Grand Teton but is a lot higher than I like to be.  We rode up in the tram with several para gliders and  could have done that in tandem if we were braver.
