Greetings to all our blog followers. We just returned from a 12 night Mediterranean cruise on the
beautiful Celebrity Constellation. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end and made
better since we were accompanied by my brother Louis and his wife Charlene and my sister Barbara and her friend Zina.
We started in Rome where we visited the Vatican Museums and Saint Peter’s Basilica. Seeing the
Sistine Chapel was an awesome experience - unfortunately, no pictures allowed. We also did a very
quick visit to the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Parthenon. Our time in Rome was cut short
due to plane delays leaving the States so, no visit to the Coliseum but I did throw a coin in the Trevi
Fountain which guarantees my return to the city.
Our first stop after leaving the port of Rome (Civitavecchia) was Naples where the six of us took a
very long shore excursion to visit, Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii. Capri is a beautiful island where they grow huge lemons and make Lemoncello but the highlight was seeing the ruins of Pompeii.
Malta was our second stop where we did an island drive to see the highlights. Barbara, Ken and
myself were there for a week about 10 years ago but Louis had never seen our mother’s birthplace.
He said that he would like to come back.
After Malta, we visited Santorini, Ephesus (Turkey), Rhodes, Mykonos, Athens, Crete and ended in Venice. Santorini and Mykonos are noted for their very square, white buildings most with blue roofs and shutters. The Roman ruins in Ephesus were very interesting as was the recreated house where the Virgin Mary was believed to have lived out her life in the care of St. John. Crete and Rhodes were
also interesting but the highlight was climbing the Acropolis in Athens to visit the Parthenon. It was definitely one of the “Oh My God” experiences of my life.
We ended our vacation in Venice where we visited the Murano glassworks (on its own island) and
went on a gondola ride (no singing though). All in all another EXCELLENT ADVENTURE!
