ON THE ROAD AGAIN FOR 2011, ALASKA HO

Greetings! We have resurrected our blog because of the many requests that we have had. Ken and I have started our summer travels for 2011 at bit early. We left Florida on March 12th and will be on the road until mid-October. Our travels will take us from Perry, GA where we did sales for Adventure Caravans at an FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) rally thru Texas to California and up to Alaska. After leaving Perry we stopped in Vicksburg, MS for two days to visit the National Park and Civil War battlefield. It is also the home of the USSCairo - an ironclad boat that saw battle on the Mississippi during the Civil War. It was buried in the mud for 100 years so there wasn't much left of the original structure. I had forgotten my history but re-learned that Vicksburg was captured by the Union in 1863 and was an occupied city for the remainder of the war and afterwards. Vicksburg is also home to several casinos along the Mississippi so we visited one of them too. The RV park we stayed at is at one of the casinos and has a shuttle bus that runs from the park to the casino 24/7. The building with the "Biedenharn" name is where Coca-Cola was first bottled in the US. by Joseph Biedenharn. Before 1894 you could only get Coke at a soda fountain. Kristine (our youngest) is a Keller-Williams real estate agent who works for a descendant of the family.
