MARDI GRAS RALLY THE FIRST DAYS

Hello from New Orleans.  Orientation started with a"HURRICANE"toast. Hurricanes are a traditional New Orleans drink made with rum and a fruit punch.  It was enjoyed by all.  After orientation, dinner was served.  We had another New Orleans tradition - Jambalaya.  It was prepared by our rally masters - Barry and Terry and, again, enjoyed by all.  Dessert was King Cake which everyone ate very carefully knowing that there was a "baby" in it somewhere.  John found the baby and he and his wife Wendy became our King and Queen.
Our first day took us on a tour of the city both by bus and on foot. It included a visit to one of the cemeteries.  Yes, they do bury people above ground but it is to conserve land , not because of the water level. We had time for lunch and shopping in the French Quarter then departed for our first parade in Metairie.  Metairie is a suburb and the parade there was more family oriented.  They all have a theme and the one that night was "Broadway on Parade".  The floats and costumes are spectacular.  More to come as we continue with parades in the city as well as other planned activities.
